Introduction Image registration is an important tool in medical image analysis, particularly in functional MRI (fMRI) and gadolinium contrast uptake in breast imaging. The most common methods of registering two images are image domain based iterative searches for optimal shift and rotation parameters.[1] Maas et al [2], and Calhoun et al[3], have published a frequency domain algorithm (DART) that determines rotational and translational parameters in a single pass using cross correlations.
